Giovanni van Bronckhorst makes surprise Celtic admission

Leaving behind the memories of the 2021/22 season, Celtic have already started preparing for the upcoming challenges. In what was Ange Postecoglou’s first season in charge at the club, he managed to lead the Hoops to a Scottish League Cup and Premiership double.

There was even an opportunity to secure a domestic treble, but the Scottish Cup semi-final defeat at the hands of the Rangers put an end to those hopes.

With Celtic winning the Premiership and subsequently qualifying for the Champions League next season, the 2022/23 season is considered to be an even more important campaign for the Hoops.

On top of everything, Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s recent comments will put more onus on the shoulders of Postecoglou and his side for the upcoming campaign.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst gives credit to Celtic’s recent success

Van Bronckhorst gave the Hoops the credit for their domestic success. As reported by the Scottish Daily Express, he told Sky Sports:

"“When you are first in the championship you deserve it and all credit to Celtic but it’s a new season ahead and we all want to be successful for this club.”"

Van Bronckhorst and Postecoglou have locked horns on four occasions so far, with the former Australia national team manager losing only one of those fixtures. The race for the Premiership started off in a remarkable fashion for the Rangers last season, but a seamless second half from Postecoglou’s men saw Celtic finishing the title marathon with a four-point lead.

While Celtic finished with two accolades last season, Rangers won only one trophy. The blue side of Glasgow had an opportunity to secure the UEFA Europa League but Eintracht Frankfurt beat them to win the European title. Now, it remains to be seen how this season turns out for the two Glasgow giants.

While Celtic deserve all the credit in the world for the job that they did last season, it is rare for it to come from the Rangers manager and it is refreshing in a way. Despite the intense rivalry between the two clubs, Postecoglou and Van Bronckhorst do seem to enjoy a good relationship.
