Celtic have already made quite a few additions to their squad this summer by bringing in Cameron Carter-Vickers, Jota, Daizen Maeda, Benjamin Siegrist and Alexandro Bernabei on permanent deals. One area on the pitch that still needs work though is their defensive midfield, with Nir Bitton leaving at the end of the previous campaign.
Bitton was not a regular starter in Ange Postecoglou’s side but he did have a very prominent role to play nonetheless, with the manager relying on him to come off the bench and help see off games.
That does not mean that some could not head in the opposite direction though. Ismaila Soro is someone who failed to make much of a mark last season and there does not appear to be much hope of him getting regular minutes this time either. As a result, a Parkhead exit looks to be on the cards for the Ivory Coast midfielder.
As tweeted out by Pedro Sepulveda, Soro is set to join FC Arouca from Celtic on loan with an option to buy, and the move is imminent.
Celtic player set to join Portuguese club this summer
Soro arrived at Celtic during the time of Neil Lennon as manager and except for a brief spell of good form, he has never quite been able to deliver the goods at Parkhead.
As a result, it might be the right step for him to move away for all parties involved and it remains to be seen how things turn out for Soro at a different club. He does have some very good attributes but at the same time, there are a number of things at which he needs to improve if he is to play regular football for a top club.
Celtic do need to bring in a defensive midfielder this summer though and with their chase for Vinicius Souza leading nowhere, it remains to be seen who they end up going after next.
