Celtic were set to face the Rangers in Australia in the Sydney Super Cup later this year. But the Ibrox club ended up pulling out, amid protests from a section of their supporters. The Hoops are still headed Down Under and now, they know the identity of the team who will be replacing their Glasgow rivals – Everton.

It is impossible to replace the sheer spectacle that is the Glasgow Derby but a game against Everton promises to be a mouth watering affair for both sets of fans as well.

The Toffees might be coming off of a terrible campaign, when they were barely able to avoid getting relegated, but they still have some big names in their ranks, and the biggest of them is their current manager, Frank Lampard.

Lampard has already become a cult figure amongst the Everton fans, having saved them from the jaws of relegation. On the other hand, the former Chelsea superstar seems to have been impressed with the job that Ange Postecoglou has done at Celtic. As reported by news.com.au, he told News Corp Australia:

"“I’ve got an awful lot of respect for what Ange did last season at Celtic. It isn’t easy to hit the ground running in a league you’ve not worked in before.“He did that really well, winning the title with a very definite style of play – a really exciting brand of football.“It is hard to explain the atmosphere of an Old Firm game. The rivalry in Glasgow is one of the fiercest in world football and Ange embraced that challenge.“It was a big achievement for him last year and it was impressive to see the way he went about it.”"

Lampard makes massive Celtic admission before Everton friendly in Australia

Lampard is believed to lean towards the Rangers but that has not stopped him from recognising the absolutely fantastic job that Postecoglou has done ever since arriving as the manager of Celtic.

A lot of this Australian tour would be revolving around Postecoglou as well, as he is the greatest manager that the country have ever produced. Many have even dubbed it to be the ‘Ange Postecoglou Homecoming Tour’.

Hopefully, Celtic will be able to impress in Australia but that is still quite some time away. Before that, they will have to make sure that they make a good start to the competitive season, with the Premiership and League Cup to defend and an opportunity to impress in the Champions League group stages as well.
