Celtic have a bit of a mixed record in recent years when it comes to signing Greek players. Giorgos Giakoumakis arrived last summer, and despite a slow start, he proved to be a great success in the second half of the season, scoring consistently and playing a major role in the Hoops’ Premiership win. On the other hand, Vasilis Barkas was brought in the summer of 2020 and after struggling for a couple of campaigns, he has left on loan.

Now though, it looks like Celtic have another Greek international in their sights, with Josip Juranovic being linked with a move away from the club.

Juranovic is rumoured to be drawing interest from multiple clubs in the Premier League as well as Atletico Madrid, and while an exit does not look near right now, Celtic should have their eyes on alternatives.

As reported by Football Insider, Celtic are lining up a move for Sheffield United’s George Baldock, as they draw up contingency plans in case Juranovic makes an exit this summer.

Celtic had been heavily linked with a move for Baldock last summer as well, before they ended up signing Juranovic from Legia Warsaw.

Now, if Juranovic ends up departing Parkhead, it looks like the club could end up trying to bring in Baldock as his replacement.

Baldock currently plays for Championship side, Sheffield United, and has been a regular for them for quite a few years now. He also recently made several appearances for the Greek national team as well.

He is 29 years of age and as a result, while he would not be the most long-term of signings, he would be a solid one for the foreseeable future nonetheless. All of this seems to depend on Juranovic and what he ends up doing though, and fans can only hope that he remains at Celtic.
