While coming through the youth ranks at Celtic, Karamoko Dembele was one of the most highly-rated players in the world. Things did not go as smoothly for him at the senior level though, as he was never quite able to make the jump and establish himself in the first-team at Parkhead. His contract came to an end this summer, and he has departed the club and joined French side Brest.

Now, while Dembele did not make a massive impression at the senior level, it must be said that he was extremely unlucky as well with injuries. He ended up suffering a serious injury in the previous pre-season and that resulted in him missing a large chunk of the season.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Dembele ultimately scored just once in 10 appearances for Celtic through the course of his time at the club.

But it appears that Dembele feels that the manager did not like the way that he played or saw something missing in his game. As reported by Ouest-France (via Glasgow Live), he said:

"“It’s been very difficult for me. When you play so young, there is lots of pressure. It is what it is. I deal with it well.“A lot of reasons I can not say but I think the manager didn’t really like the way I played or saw something that was missing in my game.“But I am here to prove what I can do. I am not sure why it didn’t work out. But that is God’s plan.”"

It is safe to say that the stars did not align when it comes to Dembele’s time at Celtic. He had all the talent and potential in the world, but it just did not work out for him at the senior level.

There were hopes that he would end up getting chances under the management of Ange Postecoglou last season but then, he ended up picking up an injury at the worst possible time, in pre-season, and by the time he returned, many others had moved ahead of him in the pecking order.

It is easy to forget though that Dembele is still just 19 years of age and has plenty of time on his hands to turn things around, and prove people wrong.
