Celtic offered stunning Vinicius Souza transfer boost
Vinicius Souza is a player whose signature Celtic have appeared to have been chasing for a while now. There is a lot of interest in the Brazilian midfielder though, who caught the eye with his performances on loan at Belgian top flight side, KV Mechelen, last season. Thus, it is safe to say that the Hoops have a difficult transfer battle on their hands.
And it had appeared that they had lost that battle as well, as rumours had emerged that Souza had decided to join PSV Eindhoven over Celtic. That would have been a major blow for Ange Postecoglou’s plans for the upcoming campaign.
Now though, it appears that Souza has not actually decided to join PSV Eindhoven yet and that the story doing the rounds in the Scottish media is actually inaccurate.
Rik Elfrink tweeted out regarding the situation involving Souza and PSV Eindhoven:
"Informed about the story about Vincius Souza and PSV. When asked, agents of the Brazilian both deny (in Spanish and English) a Scottish story that he will play football at PSV. The decision about his future is near and probably already this week."
Celtic offered stunning boost in race to sign Souza
Thus, it looks like Celtic have been offered fresh hope in the race to sign Souza, who many believe could be the perfect fit for the Hoops at this point of time.
Celtic do need a defensive midfielder. Scott Brown left the club last summer and Nir Bitton decided to bring the curtain down on his nearly decade long career at Parkhead at the end of the previous campaign.
The club do have the likes of Ismaila Soro, Yosuke Ideguchi and James McCarthy in their ranks but none of them are yet to show that they have the ability to be regular starters for the Hoops.
Thus, the club do need to bring in another player in the position and someone like Souza would be a great addition. It is hard to see him being signed on a permanent basis though as he is rated very highly and City Football Group are not believed to be keen on letting him go either. But a loan move could very well be on the cards.
