Celtic just recently completed the signing of Alexandro Bernabei from Lanus, in a deal believed to be around £3.75 million. In the process of doing so, the left-back became the first Argentine player in the history of the Glasgow giants. That is a a surprising piece of trivia for sure, considering the huge amount of talent that has come out of Argentina over the years.

Sooner or later, that was bound to come to an end and now, the Hoops are already being linked with another Argentine player.

Defensive midfield is a position where Celtic need to bring in reinforcements this summer, as a result of Nir Bitton leaving at the end of last season. He was a key player in Ange Postecoglou’s side, even though he was not starting regularly. And while the Hoops still have the likes of Yosuke Ideguchi, James McCarthy and Ismaila Soro, none of them have been convincing.

As tweeted out by Latin Tribun, Celtic are a suitor for Fausto Vera, while Genk have already made a €6 million transfer offer for the Argentine star, which would also include a 30% sell on clause for his current side.

Celtic linked with Argentine star after signing Bernabei earlier this summer

Vera has been a regular part of the Argentine youth sides and is very highly rated. At club level, he currently plays for Argentinos Juniors.

Despite being just 22 years of age, Vera has plenty of experience at the senior level. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has made 71 appearances for Argentinos Juniors till now.

Thus, it is safe to say that Vera has the potential to be a very good signing for Celtic but at the same time, it is hard to see them shelling out a transfer fee north of €6 million for a player, having already shelled out significant transfer fees this summer to sign Cameron Carter-Vickers, Jota, Bernabei and Daizen Maeda.
