Celtic-linked £3.5 million winger is now available on free transfer
Celtic have been linked with several interesting names since the appointment of Ange Postecoglou as manager last summer. It is more than likely that the club would not have signed the likes of Kyogo Furuhashi, Daizen Maeda, Yosuke Ideguchi and Reo Hatate, if the former Yokohama F. Marinos boss was not brought in. The Hoops also signed their first Argentine player recently in Alexandro Bernabei, from Lanus.
It is safe to say that Celtic have set their eyes far and wide when it comes to making signings. Mehdi Ghayedi is someone who the club were linked with last January.
Ghayedi is a Iranian international and he was playing for Dubai-based club, Shabab Al Ahli back then. At that point, rumours had suggested that it would take a transfer fee around £3.5 million to sign the winger.
But now, he is without a club and as a result, this might be the perfect opportunity for Celtic to make a move for Ghayedi, if they are still interested in him.
Celtic have the perfect chance to sign the winger this summer
Ghayedi’s spell at Shabab Al Ahli was not the best but before that he was incredibly impressive, while playing for Iranian clubs, Iranjavan and Esteghlal, both at the domestic level and in the AFC Champions League.
While small in stature, Ghayedi is extremely skilful and has even been dubbed as the ‘Iranian Messi’ by some. He is a very versatile player, who is capable of playing on both wings as well up front as a second striker. Also, he is just 23 years of age and has plenty of room for improvement.
Thus, it might not be a bad idea for Celtic to have a look at the Iranian international, especially considering the lack of options on the wings for the club at this point of time.
Karamoko Dembele has completed a Parkhead exit while Mikey Johnston and James Forrest have both struggled with form and fitness for a few years now. As a result, the club would do well to bring in another winger this summer, especially with Champions League football coming up.
