Celtic have a pretty solid squad at this point of time, having already signed Cameron Carter-Vickers, Jota, Daizen Maeda, Alexandro Bernabei and Benjamin Siegrist this summer on permanent deals. But there are still a couple of areas where the Hoops could do with a bit more depth and central defence could very well be one of them.

Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt formed a formidable partnership in the heart of defence last season but beyond them, the club do not have a lot of options there. Stephen Welsh does not seem to be ready to be featured regularly if one of the duo did end up getting injured. On the other hand, Christopher Jullien could be on his way out after struggling for playing time and fitness in recent times.

Celtic have spread their eyes far and wide in recent times when it comes to signing players and they should consider a move for a struggling Manchester United player in their search for a centre-back.

The player in question is Axel Tuanzebe. After not getting enough playing time at Manchester United, he was sent out on loan at Aston Villa and then Napoli last season, but struggled at both clubs. Thus, one would expect him to depart Old Trafford once again this summer, and Celtic must see if a deal is possible.

Celtic should try to sign Tuanzebe this summer

Tuanzebe’s current deal with Manchester United is believed to run out next summer but in recent times, we have seen several clubs send players out on loan in similar situations by activating an option that extends their deals by a year so that they can receive a transfer fee in the future.

Could a loan with an option to buy be a possibility for someone like Tuanzebe? It remains to be seen.

Tuanzebe was once very highly rated at Manchester United though and has a ton of potential. A lot of people will remember his incredible performance against PSG, when he outplayed Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.

The biggest hurdle in a move for him might be convincing him to come to Celtic, but then, after failing to make a mark at both Aston Villa and Napoli last season, he needs a fresh start somewhere and a player with his versatility would get a lot of playing time at Parkhead. Also, the Hoops have Champions League football to offer.
