Celtic’s transfer record since last summer has been absolutely brilliant and they seem to have picked up right where they left off, by signing the likes of Cameron Carter-Vickers, Jota, Daizen Maeda, Alexandro Bernabei and Benjamin Siegrist on permanent deals this time around, and the Hoops are not expected to stop there either, and could make a few more additions to Ange Postecoglou’s squad.

Of course, that does not mean that the club have been absolutely flawless and some mistakes have been there, as is always going to be the case. One such mistake appears to have been the decision to let Vakoun Bayo go.

Now, to be honest, Bayo never quite impressed in a Celtic shirt but at the same time, he did not get a lot of opportunities to do so either. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he played just 365 minutes of football in total for the Hoops. That is not enough for anybody to show what he is capable of.

Bayo ended up joining Gent last summer but it did not end up working out there either. He would be sent out on loan to RSC Charleroi from there and that is where he has found his footing and went on a brilliant run of form. Unsurprisingly, the Belgian side took the option to buy on him and have moved him out quickly as well.

Celtic made a transfer mistake last summer by letting Bayo go

The form of Bayo caught the attention of clubs down South and he has completed a move to Watford this summer, which is believed to have seen the Hornets shell out a £5 million transfer fee.

It is safe to say that Bayo should have been given more chances to succeed at Celtic, considering how well he has done since leaving the club last summer.

At the same time, his departure might not have been seen as much of a loss for the Hoops but in hindsight, it could prove to be a huge mistake, depending on how he does at Watford.
