Celtic are already taking huge steps forward to widen the gap between themselves and the Rangers. Despite facing criticism in some of the Scottish media regarding a slow start to the summer transfer window, the Hoops have now made several significant signings ahead of their pre-season training camp in Austria.

Rangers, on the other hand, have focussed on extending the deals of a couple of veteran players in Allan McGregor and Steven Davis. There’s plenty of other rumours about their transfer plans as well but most of it is related to players leaving rather than the other way round.

Despite the Rangers’ trip to Portugal for pre-season next week and upcoming Champions League qualifying matches, unlike Celtic, there’s much less sign of new players arriving yet, other than John Souttar, a deal they had already agreed months back.

Perhaps they are more heavily reliant on letting players go first before making any serious moves. It remains to be seen if they are successful in that regard. One would much rather be in the position Celtic are in at the moment though.

Ange Postecoglou, along with many Celtic fans, will be delighted to have secured the signings Daizen Maeda, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Jota, all on permanent deals following successful loan spells. They were top performers for the Hoops last season and this brings added stability to the club.

Bringing in Benjamin Siegrist to add more depth in the goalkeeper position bolsters the squad, as does the exciting signing of left-back Alexandro Bernabei. The young Argentinian will give Greg Taylor some much need competition and looks to be a terrific prospect.

Another centre-back and a defensive midfielder still appear to be very much on Celtic’s radar at this point of time. And that could widen the gap further between the two Glasgow giants if the Rangers don’t respond with signings of their own.
