Celtic have been linked with some very exciting moves in recent times. But the most ambitious one was Malick Thiaw of Schalke. The Germany youth international is believed to be rated at a transfer fee around £8 million and played a big part in his current club’s promotion to the Bundesliga last season.

Rumours had broken out recently though that Thiaw could potentially be on his way out of Schalke, despite the club returning to the Bundesliga, and was in talks with Celtic. The Germany youth international was linked with the likes of AC Milan and Liverpool as well in recent times.

On the other hand, it looked like Christopher Jullien was headed in the opposite direction. But since then, the Frenchman’s proposed move to Schalke seems to have fallen apart and appears to be off the table right now.

And as reported by The Scottish Sun, the rumours Thiaw with Celtic are wide of the mark and the 20-year-old is not on the Hoops’ radar.

Thiaw to Celtic transfer saga takes a surprise twist

Thus, it looks like a move for Thiaw is not on the cards for Celtic. It is safe to say that that is a blow to the hopes of a lot of fans, who would have been hoping to see the Germany youth star play for the Hoops.

It would have been very difficult to bring Thiaw to Celtic in the first place though, firstly, because of the heavy interest in the youngster’s signature. On the other hand, it would have taken a significant transfer fee to sign him from Schalke as well.

Now, it remains to be seen how Celtic end up strengthening their centre-back ranks this summer. But for anyone new to be brought in, one cannot help but feel that they will need to find Jullien a new home first, which could prove to be difficult owing to his injury history.
