While most the recent rumours surrounding Celtic have focused on the likes of Jota, Alexandro Bernabei and a potential new centre-back, one cannot overlook the fact that the Hoops are in urgent need of bringing in reinforcements in defensive midfield this summer, after Nir Bitton departed Parkhead at the end of last season, and Scott Brown had left last summer.
Celtic do have some options there in the form of Ismaila Soro, James McCarthy and Yosuke Ideguchi, but none of them have managed to make their mark in the first-team under the management of Ange Postecoglou.
Thus, the club will need to bring in a defensive midfielder this summer and one player that they have been heavily linked with is Lommel SK’s Brazilian star, Vinicius Souza.
A transfer update from Fabrizio Romano has raised the hopes of Celtic fans as well as Brazilian midfielder Metinho looks set to leave Troyes to join Lommel SK. The transfer guru tweeted out:

▫️ Brazilian midfielder Metinho will leave Troyes to join Lommel SK in Belgium, medicals today;
▫️ Brazilian winger Savinho will sign for one City Group club and then join PSV Eindhoven, as expected.
Celtic handed Souza boost by Fabrizio’s transfer update
Lommel SK are currently in the second division of Belgian football but Souza spent the previous season out on loan with KV Mechelen in the top flight, where he impressed immensely and caught the eye of several clubs around Europe.
Celtic are not the only club who have been linked with a move for the Brazilian midfielder this summer and the race for his signature is expected to be very tough to say the least.
It must be said that it is difficult to see Celtic signing Souza on a permanent basis from Lommel SK this summer as he is believed to be rated at a transfer fee around £8 million. A loan move could be on the cards though.
It remains to be seen how things unfold in the Souza transfer saga from here on forward. It must be said though that Celtic have enjoyed tremendous success with loan moves in recent times, with Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers being two prime examples.
