Celtic have made a blistering start to the summer transfer window. The Hoops have already signed Cameron Carter-Vickers from Tottenham Hotspur in a massive deal that could rise up to £10 million with add-ons, Benjamin Siegrist on a free transfer and Alexandro Bernabei in a £3.75 million deal from Lanus. A move for Jota is believed to be on the verge of completion as well, with rumours suggesting that the Portuguese winger is back in Glasgow.

On the other hand, there will have to be some exits as well, in order to free up spots in the squad. Quite a few players have left at the end of their contracts and on loan this summer.

Another player who had appeared to be on the verge on leaving on a loan, with an option to buy, was Christopher Jullien as he was in talks with Schalke. But now, it has emerged that there was no agreement on personal terms between the Frenchman and the German club after the medical tests yesterday and the defender is already back in Glasgow.

Fabrizio Romano tweeted out:

Celtic’s transfer plan falls apart at the final step

Jullien leaving Celtic would have made sense for all parties involved. The Frenchman has barely featured for the Hoops over the last couple of seasons, spending the entirety of 2021 out with injury.

He returned to fitness earlier this year but has managed to make only one appearance in Ange Postecoglou’s side and that too as a substitute.

With Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt firmly ahead of him in the pecking order, and possibly even Stephen Welsh, it is hard to see Jullien getting too many first-team opportunities in the near future. As a result, a move away from Parkhead would have represented the right step for both the club and the player at this stage.

A move to Schalke seems very much off the table now though but that does not mean that Jullien could not end up joining a different club this summer. It remains to seen how things unfold over the coming weeks and months.
