It looks like Christopher Jullien’s time at Celtic could come to an end soon. The French defender has struggled with injury over the past couple of seasons, did not make a single appearance in 2021 and has made only one since his return to full fitness earlier this year, and that too as a substitute. Also, he only has a year left on his current deal with the Hoops.

Rumours broke out earlier this morning that Jullien was in Germany to hold talks with Schalke, who have recently been promoted back to Bundesliga. The club were unable to keep hold of Ko Itakura due to the financial situation right now.

It looks like they are on the verge of agreeing a loan deal with an option to buy for Jullien though and if that does go through, Celtic are expected to trigger an extension on the Frenchman’s deal that would allow them to get a transfer fee for him next summer.

There is still one major hurdle to cross before Jullien’s proposed move to Schalke goes through though. As tweeted out by Anthony Joseph, he will have a fairly thorough medical with the Bundesliga giants before any deal is finalised with Celtic, due to his injury problems:

There’s one huge hurdle left in Jullien’s proposed Celtic exit to join Schalke

Jullien has dealt with some major injuries over the past couple of seasons. He was already having some issues at the start of the 2020/21 campaign, before suffering a serious knee injury at the end of 2020 that kept him out for the entirety of 2021. He has made just a single appearance this year.

Thus, it is understandable why Schalke would want him to undergo a thorough medical before finalising any move.

Jullien is believed to have been fully fit this year though and as a result, one would be hoping that he would be able to get through the medicals with Schalke. But anything could happen, and this move is not over the line yet.
