Portuguese media make stunning Jota to Celtic transfer claim
The Jota to Celtic transfer saga has become a cause of worry for the club’s fans in recent days. Initially, it was believed to be a straightforward one, with the move for Cameron Carter-Vickers excepted to be more complicated. But while a permanent deal to sign the United States defender from Tottenham Hotspur is already over the line, things have dragged on when it comes to the Portuguese winger.
Celtic fans are worried and understandably so. There are fears that there could be some last moment stumbling blocks in the deal, even though all the noise coming out of the media, both in Scotland and abroad, has suggested the move is a matter of when and not if.
It is very important for Celtic to sign Jota on a permanent basis, after his season-long loan spell from Benfica proved to be a grand success. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 13 goals and provided 14 assists in 40 appearances for the club.
There appears to be some very positive news regarding the situation coming out of the Portuguese media though. A report from A Bola reads:
"Jota Filipe will even say goodbye to the Luz club and should be made official this Thursday by Celtic. The Scottish club will pay Benfica €7.5m for 70 percent of Jota’s pass, an amount included in the purchase option clause that was defined when the player was loaned to Celtic last season."
Portuguese media makes stunning Jota to Celtic claim
The recent transfer activity from Celtic has been curious to say the least. The media has claimed for a long time that the move for Jota is as good as done but no official announcement has been made yet, with the player appearing to be on a bit of a world tour, not showing up at the start of pre-season for either Celtic or Benfica.
On the other hand, the case is similar with Alexandro Bernabei of Lanus as well. Reports have suggested that the Hoops have agreed a £3.75 million deal for the Argentine left-back and a medical is complete as well, but once again, no official announcement has been made.
Hopefully, these deals will be over the line soon. The club are also expected to go after a defensive midfielder and central defender this summer.
