Celtic have already booked their place in next season’s Champions League group stage and that has surely helped the club in the ongoing summer transfer window, thanks to the cash boost that comes with playing in Europe’s elite competition. They have already signed Cameron Carter-Vickers in a potentially club-record transfer and Benjamin Siegrist as a free agent. On the other hand, moves for Jota and Alexandro Bernabei are also believed to be close.

The club are not expected to stop there though. There are other areas of the squad where they are expected to be looking to improve. One of them could very well be centre-back.

Christopher Jullien seems to be on his way out of the club this summer after struggling to break into the first-team picture after his return from injury. He made a single appearance, that too off the bench, this year till now. Rumours have suggested that the Frenchman is on his way to Schalke, on a loan deal with an option to buy.

On the other hand, it looks like a player from Schalke could end up heading towards Celtic. As reported by Calciomercato (via Daily Record), Malick Thiaw is in discussions with the Hoops.

Celtic could end up signing player from Schalke this summer

Thiaw is a Germany youth international and has made a lot of appearances for Schalke till now, playing a key part in their promotion to the Bundesliga last season.

Signing someone of his quality would be an incredible show of ambition on the part of Celtic as he has been linked with the likes of Liverpool and AC Milan in the past.

Thiaw might just be the type of signing that Celtic need as well. He is a centre-back, who can also play as a defensive midfielder and as a right-back. But with the player believed to be rated at a transfer fee around £8 million, it will be very interesting to see if the club end up making a serious move for him this summer, having already shelled out a significant amount in transfer fees.
