Celtic heading towards huge announcements despite fans worrying

Celtic fans should expect huge announcements from the club soon regarding signings as the Hoops appear to be well ahead of their usual summer transfer window schedule. Last week, we saw certain sections of the media questioning their apparent lack of transfer activity, despite the fact that the window doesn’t close until 1 September.

It’s way too early to be concerned.  Although Ange Postecoglou’s desire for early signings is very sensible and the pre-season training camp in Austria starts next week, there’s plenty of time until the kick off of the new league campaign against Aberdeen on July 31.

It is also important to point out that Celtic don’t need to be ready for early European qualifying games thanks to having already booked their place in next season’s Champions League group stage.

Already we’ve seen the club let a number of players leave, whether it is their contracts running out or others like Liam Scales, Adam Montgomery and Vasilis Barkas going out on loan. Christopher Jullien’s exit on loan looks imminent too. And it feels unlikely that we’d see departures in those positions without replacements being lined up.

Cameron Carter-Vickers has already signed on a permanent basis from Tottenham Hotspur in a deal that could rise up to £10 million with add-ons and news is anticipated on a daily basis regarding Jota as well, although that deal has dragged on much longer than expected.

Alexandro Bernabei has arrived in Glasgow and his medical is believed to have been completed already, as he looks set to join in a £3.75 million deal from Lanus.

Benjamin Siegrist has signed to bolster the goalkeeping ranks. Joe Hart doesn’t look like he needs extra motivation, but the Swiss goalkeeper’s presence will do no harm. He was one of the best shot stoppers in the league during his time at Dundee United.

There’s lots of news flying around regarding other targets as well. It remains to be seen how many more signings Celtic pull off this summer, with the Champions League group stage campaign in mind. A defensive midfielder is believed to be near the top of their wish list and if Jullien does complete his exit, it would not be a surprise to see a centre-back arrive as well.

Fans just need to continue to be patient, as the likely scenario is that some great news will be announced ahead of the pre-season trip to Austria. To add to the excitement, the club have made a habit of announcing a deal out of nowhere that nobody was aware of, so expect the unexpected.
