Celtic are expected to strengthen their squad significantly over the course of the summer transfer window and they have already started working in that direction. The club have signed Cameron Carter-Vickers in a huge deal from Tottenham Hotspur after his impressive loan spell last season, when he was one of the Hoops’ best players. Moves for Jota and Alexandro Bernabei are also believed to be a matter of time while Benjamin Siegrist has arrived on a free transfer.

It is not just the senior team that Celtic appear to be focusing on strengthening though but their youth ranks as well. And it appears that they have their eyes on a Motherwell youngster, who is also wanted by the Rangers.

As reported by the Daily Record,  Celtic and Rangers have made opening bids for Motherwell youngster Bailey Rice but they face competition from clubs down South as well. An English Premier League club have also declared their interest in the teenager.

Rice is one of the most highly rated young talents in the country right now. He is just 15 years of age and is a defender, although he can play as a defensive midfielder as well. Motherwell are trying to keep him at the club but it is becoming increasingly difficult thanks to the heavy interest in his signature.

Celtic and Rangers have both made opening bids for the youngster

It is safe to say that Rice is drawing a lot of interest. Now, it remains to be seen who ends up winning the race for his signature.

It must be said that Celtic have had their fair share of problems keeping hold of their youngsters, as many of them have left the club in order to join teams all around Europe. Thus, the youth ranks could do with some reinforcements.

They have Champions League football to offer this time around as well as a manager in Ange Postecoglou, who is known to give opportunities to youngsters.
