Josip Juranovic was signed by Celtic last summer from Legia Warsaw for a transfer fee believed to be around £2.5 million. Over the course of the season, it proved to be an incredible bargain though, as the Croatian international established himself as a key member of Ange Postecoglou’s side, as they went on to win an unexpected Premiership and League Cup double.

Not only was Juranovic a standout at right-back but he also filled in at left-back and on the wings, whenever the situation called for it. That versatility proved to be vital for the Hoops, as they did not have a very deep squad, especially in the first half of the season.

Juranovic has shined for the Croatian national team in recent times as well though and his performances seem to have caught the eye of some of the biggest clubs in Europe. He has already been linked with a move to the Premier League and today, rumours broke out that Atletico Madrid hold an interest in the player as well.

While that is bad news for Celtic, as they head into a season with guaranteed Champions League group stage football, Anthony Joseph has painted a brighter picture of the situation. He tweeted out:

The situation is not great for Celtic to say the least. But at the same time, they have a lot of control as well.

On one hand, the club already have a guaranteed spot in the Champions League next season and the cash boost that comes as a result of it. On the other hand, Juranovic still has a long time left on his current deal with the club.

Also, the World Cup is just months away and any transfer would hold a certain amount of risk for Juranovic, especially as he knows he will start for Celtic regularly.
