On top of his game, Leigh Griffiths was one of the best strikers in Celtic history. Unfortunately, that form did not last a long time and he spent the majority of his career at Parkhead struggling with form and fitness. He was given one chance after another to rediscover his best form though, as many hoped that he would eventually be able to hit his prime form once again but he simply was not.

Now, he finds himself without a club. Celtic sent him out on loan to Dundee FC last season but when that did not work out, they decided to let him go. He would spend the second half of the campaign at Falkirk but that did not work out either.

At his best, Griffiths was arguably the best player in all of Scotland. But now, at just 31 years of age, he finds himself staring at an uncertain future, having struggled to make his mark at a Scottish League One club in his last spell.

Surprisingly, Griffiths has revealed that he still stays in touch with Ange Postecoglou, even though the pair might not have worked together for long at Celtic. As reported by the Daily Record, the striker said:

"“I text Ange whenever Celtic have a big game and he always replies so that’s a good sign.”"

Griffiths makes surprising revelation about his relationship with Celtic manager Postecoglou

Griffiths is one of the biggest ‘what if’ stories in Scottish football history. At the end of the day, one can only wonder what he could have achieved if he had not struggled with issues both on and off the pitch throughout the course of his career.

Even then, he did hit some incredible heights while on the top of his game. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 123 goals and provided 51 assists in 262 appearances for Celtic.

He was the highest goalscorer for Celtic in the previous decade. While he finds himself in a difficult position right now, there is no question about the fact that if he can rediscover some of his old form, he can still be a major contributor to a number of clubs around Scotland. He already showed in the second half of the 2019/20 campaign that he is still capable of turning back the clock. We can only wish him the best in whatever direction football takes him next.
