Sky Sports man gives update on Albian Ajeti’s Celtic future

Celtic signed Albian Ajeti in the summer of 2020 from West Ham United in a big money move. Initially, it had been believed that the Hoops were set to sign him on a loan deal but surprisingly, they ended up signing him on a permanent basis instead. He made a very good start at Parkhead as well, and it had looked like the club had pulled off a transfer masterstroke. But it has not worked out since then.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Ajeti has scored 9 goals and provided 5 assists in 48 appearances for Celtic till now.

He struggled to break into Ange Postecoglou’s plans last season as well and as a result, it is no surprise that he has been linked with a move away from Celtic this summer, although nothing has materialised till now.

Now, Anthony Joseph has given an update on the situation surrounding Ajeti’s Celtic future. As reported by GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said:

"“Ajeti has just not worked out. He signed for £4.5m in the Covid season, he was living in a hotel, not really settling in at Celtic and hasn’t been able to set the world alight under Ange Postecoglou.“He probably doesn’t fit into the way Postecoglou wants to play and unless he has a really good pre-season, which could happen, if they were to get a loan offer with an option to buy, Celtic would very much entertain that.”"

While there are still quite a few holes in this Celtic squad, one of them is not up front. Both Kyogo and Giorgos Giakoumakis have had their fair share of injury problems during their time at Parkhead. But when they have been on the pitch, they have been absolutely brilliant.

Thus, one of the biggest headaches that Postecoglou will have next season is how to give enough playing time to both.

As a result, it is hard to see Ajeti getting enough playing time next season. Even if both Kyogo and Giakoumakis are absent, it does feel like Postecoglou would prefer to go through the middle with Daizen Maeda instead.

As a result, it might be the best step for both the club and the player to part ways at this point of time. It remains to be seen how things unfold over the coming weeks and months.
