A lot of the Rangers fans had claimed earlier this year that the loan signing of Aaron Ramsey, from Juventus, was the end of Celtic’s Premiership hopes. It is safe to say that things turned out quite differently. Not only did the Hoops go on to win the league by four points, but the Welshman would also go on to miss the decisive penalty kick against Eintracht Frankfurt, in the Europa League final.

That did not stop the Rangers from being linked with another Wales international, in the form of five-time Champions League winner, Gareth Bale.

It is safe to say that it was a bizarre rumour from the very beginning, yet, after having pulled off the signing of Ramsey in January, a lot of the Rangers’ supporters were of the belief that a move for Bale was not out of the question.

That has not turned out to be the case. As tweeted out by Anthony Joseph, Bale has agreed a one-year deal with Los Angeles FC and the reaction of the Celtic fans to the news should not come as a surprise to anybody:

Bale has not been anywhere near the top of his game for years now, struggling for both form and fitness at Real Madrid.

He had a decent loan spell at Tottenham Hotspur recently though and seems to raise his game to an incredible level whenever he turns up for the Wales national team.

Rumours about retirement have followed Bale for a long time but with Wales set to take part in the upcoming World Cup in Qatar, that does seem to be some time away for the moment.

After bringing an end to his up-and-down yet trophy-laden Real Madrid career this summer, Bale will move to the MLS, to play for Los Angeles FC.
