Nir Bitton might not have been a regular starter under the management of Ange Postecoglou but he was still a key player for Celtic. He was one of the manager’s most reliable options to bring off the bench in order to solidify things and see out games. Thus, him leaving the club at the end of last season was a blow for the Hoops and they will surely need to find a replacement for him this summer.
Bitton had been at Celtic for almost a decade and he had gone through his fair share of ups and downs during that period of time.
With him leaving, not only are Celtic losing a reliable player but also a lot of experience, which would have come in handy when they came up against top class opposition in the UEFA Champions League group stage next season.
It is still unclear where the Israeli international will head after his Celtic exit, but he is being linked with a stunning reunion. As reported by Sport 5 (via Football Scotland), Neil Lennon is keen for Bitton to join him in Cyprus, at Omonia Nicosia.
Bitton linked with stunning reunion after Celtic exit
Lennon’s time at Celtic came to a disastrous end as the club failed in their attempt to win 10IAR and he stepped down in the middle of the season, in February. While he achieved a tremendous amount at Parkhead, both as a player and as a manager, his time will probably always be defined by the failure of the 2020/21 campaign.
On the other hand, Bitton’s Parkhead exit was very different, as he got to say his final goodbye to the Celtic fans as Premiership champion.
A reunion between Bitton and Lennon in Cyprus will certainly be very interesting. It remains to be seen if it does end up happening.
