Celtic are headed for an exciting summer transfer window by the looks of it. They have already signed Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent basis from Tottenham Hotspur in a deal that could turn out to be the biggest in the history of the club with add-ons. On the other hand, moves for Jota and Alexandro Bernabei do not seem to be far away either.
As a result, Celtic do not need to be looking towards other clubs and what they are doing this summer. Even then though, there is one move that must have caught the attention of the Hoops fans immediately.
As reported by Sky Sports, Hibernian have signed Aiden McGeady on a one-year deal. He will be reuniting with his former Sunderland manager, Lee Johnson, at Easter Road.
Not many fans would have expected to see McGeady back in the Scottish Premiership in 2022, at 36 years of age and more than a decade after leaving Celtic, but here we are.
Former Celtic star returns to Scottish Premiership after almost a decade
McGeady had come through the youth ranks at Celtic and established himself as one of the best players in all of Scotland during his time at Parkhead.
He would end up departing the club to join Spartak Moscow in the summer of 2010. The Russian club were believed to have shelled out a £9.5 million transfer fee to sign McGeady from Celtic, which was a Scottish record at that point of time.
Since then, he has spent his career down South, playing for clubs like Everton, Charlton Athletic, Preston North End, Sheffield Wednesday and Sunderland, before sealing his return to Scotland with Hibernian.
Despite being 36 years of age, McGeady can still make an impact on his day and his experience could also come in handy, as Hibernian look to bounce back from a terrible 2021/22 campaign.
