Celtic will need to strengthen in a few positions this summer, as they head into a very important 2022/23 campaign, with the Scottish crown to defend against the Rangers and Champions League group stage football to play after a long time. The club have already made one major addition in the form of Cameron Carter-Vickers, following his exceptional loan spell from Tottenham Hotspur, in a deal that could rise up to £10 million with add-ons.

Yet, centre-back remains a position where they might still need to strengthen in. Recent rumours have suggested that Christopher Jullien is ready to stay at Celtic but that does raise a few problems.

On one hand, Jullien does not seem to be in Ange Postecoglou’s plans, having featured just once since his return from injury earlier this year. On the other hand, his current deal with the club is believed to run out next summer and as a result, if they hold on to him, they risk losing him on a free transfer a year later.

Thus, it remains to be seen how the Jullien situation unfolds. But as reported by Liverpool Echo, Celtic and Middlesbrough are interested in signing Ben Davies this summer and have made contact with Liverpool. It’s understood the Reds would be looking for an overall package worth around £4 million for the former Preston North End star.

Davies was heavily linked with a pre-contract agreement with Celtic last year but that failed to materialise as Liverpool swooped in at the last moment to sign him in January itself.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were going through an injury crisis at that point of time but even then, Davies did not end up making a single appearance for the club.

He was sent out on loan to Sheffield United last season and it looks like his long-term future lies away from Anfield. Now, it remains to be seen if Celtic do end up making a move to bring him to Parkhead.
