Celtic transfer rumours rubbished in a stunning blow
Defensive midfield is an area that Celtic will need to strengthen in this summer. Nir Bitton said his final goodbyes to the club at the end of last season, while Scott Brown had departed Parkhead last summer. As a result, that is a position which needs reinforcements, especially with Champions League group stage football to play next season, where they are expected to come up against much tougher opposition and have less of the ball than they normally do.
As a result, it should come as no surprise that the Hoops have been linked with a number of defensive midfielders recently, with one of them being Alfa Semedo.
Semedo currently plays for Portuguese side Vitoria Guimaraes and was with Benfica in the past. He could be a solid signing for Celtic, having impressed immensely last season.
Some rumours had emerged yesterday that the Hoops had managed to agree a deal for the Guinea-Bissau international. But as reported by Football Scotland, Semedo is not on the verge of joining Celtic. The rumours of them agreeing a loan deal with an option to buy are wide of the mark.
Rumours about the player being on the verge of a move to Celtic are wide of the mark
Someone like Semedo can be a solid addition to this current Celtic side. He has had loan spells at Reading and Nottingham Forest in the past, and as a result, adjusting to the Scottish game should not be incredibly difficult for him.
But rumours of him closing in on a move to Celtic seem wide of the mark at the moment. Although, that does not mean that it could happen at some point in the future.
Semedo is not the only defensive midfielder that Celtic have been linked with recently. Another player who appears to be on their radar is Lommel SK’s Vinicius Souza, who was incredibly impressive last season and appears to be drawing interest from clubs all around Europe.
