Celtic are expected to be on the search of a defensive midfielder this summer. The club have seen Scott Brown leave last summer and then Nir Bitton also departed at the end of last season. On the other hand, the likes of James McCarthy, Ismaila Soro and Yosuke Ideguchi have all failed to make their make in the middle of the park of Ange Postecoglou’s side.

On top of that, Soro is being linked with a Parkhead exit as well. Thus, it is safe to say to that the club need to make an addition there this summer, especially with the Champions League group stage to be played, where they will come up against top class opposition and will need someone who can break down their attacks.

Vinicius Souza is someone who has been incredibly impressive in recent times and is believed to have caught the eyes of clubs all around Europe, including that of Celtic.

But as reported by Yeni Safak (via Daily Record), while Celtic remain keen on a deal, Fenerbahce have submitted a €5million offer to Lommel for the midfielder, and will also include a future sell-on fee in the deal. The Belgian side are expected to be holding out for a more significant offer though.

Celtic handed blow in the race to sign Souza

Celtic could definitely do with a player of the calibre of Souza. While he is currently with Belgian second division side, Lommel SK, he spent the previous season on loan with top flight team KV Mechelen and was great for them.

Many even believe that he might be good enough to play in the Premier League already. There have been some rumours which have suggested that although he wants to play Champions League football, he has reservations over a move to the Scottish Premiership.

Thus, as things stand, things do not look too positive for Celtic in terms of their chances of pulling off a move for Souza this summer.
