Former Celtic star announces retirement, sends emotional message to fans

It is always a bitter sweet moment to see former Celtic players end their playing careers and announce their retirement. But that is just a part of football. A professional footballer’s career is very short and even the luckiest spend around a couple of decades on the pitch at most. A number of them move on to coaching though and it appears that Paul Caddis will be doing that too.

Caddis was very highly rated while coming through the youth ranks at Celtic but was never quite able to establish himself as a star at the senior level. He would go on to enjoy a decent career down South after departing Parkhead though, playing for teams like Birmingham City and Blackburn Rovers. He also represented the Scotland national team.

Caddis’ last stint on the pitch came with Swindon Town. He would take a break in 2021 and tried his hand at coaching, and now, it looks like he will be taking on that task full-time, and has announced his retirement from the pitch.

Caddis sent out an emotional message on Twitter, even mentioning how he got to fulfil his boyhood dream of playing for Celtic in front of 60,000 fans at Parkhead:

Caddis can definitely be proud of the career he had, playing for both Celtic and the Scotland national team, as well as several other good clubs.

Now, it looks like he will be fully concentrating on coaching and there is a possibility that he could team up with Scott Brown in the future at Fleetwood Town, if the stars end up aligning.

We can only wish Paul the best of luck in whatever he does in the future and congratulate him at the conclusion of a wonderful playing career.
