Released Celtic player has been signed by English club
Things never stay still at clubs the size of Celtic. Even when major rebuilds are not required, like this summer, players continue to arrive and leave at a consistent rate, as there is always the need to keep on improving in order to stay ahead of the competition. As a result, it should come as no surprise that new signings are expected at Parkhead this summer while a number of players will head out of the exit door as well.
The club have already released quite a few players, who did not appear to have much chance of breaking into Ange Postecoglou’s first-team plans any time in the near future.
One such player is Luca Connell. It is believed that the club had the option of extending his deal by another year but decided against taking it, thereby making him a free agent, bringing an end to his confusing run at Celtic.
He is still very highly rated by many and has not found it difficult to find a new club though. Barnsley have announced on their official website that they have signed Connell on a three-year deal.
Released Celtic player joins English League One side Barnsley
Barnsley recently got relegated from the Championship and will be playing League One football next season. It could be a fantastic place for Connell to get his career back on track though.
When he had signed for Celtic, it had looked like the Hoops had managed to pull off a major coup and many believed that he was destined to be a first-team star for the club.
That never happened. In fact, Connell never even made a senior appearance for the club. That is incredible when you think about how highly he was rated, his impressive loan spells and the fact that he put in some very good performances in pre-season as well.
Now, it will be very interesting to see how the 21-year-old does back in England and whether he can prove Celtic wrong.
