Celtic have made a blistering start to the summer transfer window. The Hoops have already announced the permanent move of Cameron Carter-Vickers from Tottenham Hotspur after the defender enjoyed an incredible spell on loan at Parkhead last time around and played a key role in their Premiership and League Cup triumph last season. Thus, it is safe to say that that move was a major boost for Ange Postecoglou’s team.

Now, it appears that the Hoops are closing in on their second transfer of the summer window as well and it is an interesting one to say the least.

As reported by The Scottish Sun, Celtic are closing in on the signing of Benjamin Siegrist and are poised to win the race for his signature after holding talks.

The Swiss goalkeeper does not have any lack of options and is believed to have interested clubs down South, and has also been linked with a move to Ibrox, but it looks like Postecoglou will be adding the 30-year-old to his goalkeeping ranks at Parkhead soon.

Celtic appear to have won race for highly-rated free agent

It goes without saying that this has the promise to be a brilliant move for Celtic if they are indeed able to get it over the line.

Siegrist has already proven himself in the Scottish Premiership during his time at Dundee United. On top of that, he is set to be available as a free agent as well, with his contract with the Premiership club running out this summer.

Joe Hart is the current number one at Celtic, with Scott Bain his back up. But someone like Siegrist could actually push the Manchester City legend for the first-team spot. On top of his game, the Swiss goalkeeper is fantastic and at 30 years of age, should have plenty of football left in the tank.
