Celtic star explains what makes Ange Postecoglou special

From being a team anticipating a difficult transitional period to a team lifting the Scottish Premiership title at the end of the 2021/22 season, Celtic have reached the top of the mountain faster than expected under the management of Ange Postecoglou. The success that the Hoops have accomplished in just one season with him in charge is simply incredible.

Thanks to the Premiership triumph, Celtic will play in the UEFA Champions League group stage next season, after several years. The previous campaign saw them clinching the Scottish League Cup as well.

In the January transfer window, the Hoops had made quite a few new additions to the squad, which provided them with some much-needed depth and the final push on their way to finishing the season on a high note.

Matt O’Riley was one of the players who arrived at the club at the start of the year. Celtic signed him from League One side, MK Dons, and there were a lot of question marks about the move at the time. The 21-year-old has settled in nicely at Parkhead though and was very impressive in the second half of the campaign.

While speaking with The Scottish Sun, O’Riley appeared to be very impressed with Postecoglou and what he does behind the scenes at Celtic. He said:

"“When Ange speaks you listen. Everybody does, regardless of whoever you are.“Regardless of how old or young you are, when he says something you stop what you’re doing. That’s what he’s really good at.“He just commands respect from everyone. He does have a joke around at times and it’s nice to see him when he does bring that side out.“It just shows sometimes we can just breathe! As much as I say Ange doesn’t speak to people that much, he’s sort of got a culture at Celtic where us as players and the rest of the staff have it very easy to speak to each other.“He’s installed that structure within so he overviews the whole thing and makes sure it’s ticking as it should.“If it doesn’t do that then he’s always very quick to rectify it, which is what makes him very good.“It separates us from quite a few others because he’s very switched on.”"

Postecoglou might not have been Celtic’s first choice last summer but he has surely been a massive success story in Scotland.

On the other hand, O’Riley has established himself as an important part of the team as well and could get even more playing time in the future with Tom Rogic leaving this summer.

Next season promises to be a massive one for Celtic, with Champions League football to play and the Scottish crown to defend. Thus, both Postecoglou and his players will have to raise their game even further.
