Nir Bitton called time on his Celtic career at the end of last season, as he said his final goodbyes to the fans and left Parkhead after nearly a decade-long run at the club. While the Israeli international might not have been a regular starter in Ange Postecoglou’s side, he was still a very important member of the squad though, who was brought off the bench regularly to see out games.

Thus, it is safe to say that Celtic will need to find a replacement for Bitton, especially with no other real option in defensive midfield.

Ismaila Soro is being linked with a move to Omonia Nicosia to reunite with Neil Lennon after struggling for playing time. On the other hand, both James McCarthy and Yosuke Ideguchi have found it difficult to break into the first-team picture ever since their respective arrivals at Parkhead.

One very interesting name that Celtic have been linked with recently is that of Vinicius Souza, who enjoyed a brilliant loan spell at KV Mechelen last season and is a man in-demand right now. And it looks like the Hoops have been handed a double boost in the race for his signature.

As reported by Football Scotland, Fenerbahce, who were also being linked with Souza, could move for alternatives. On the other hand, the player wants Champions League football.

Celtic can definitely dangle that carrot, as their place in the Champions League group stage for the upcoming season is booked, thanks to their Premiership title win.

Souza is currently with Belgian second division side, Lommel SK, but was a revelation last season while on loan at KV Mechelen.

Some even feel that he is too good for the Belgian league and could actually succeed at the Premier League level. If that is indeed the case, then Celtic could complete a major coup by signing him this summer, whether it be on loan or on a permanent basis.
