£9 million offer gets rejected for Celtic transfer target

Celtic will need to strengthen in quite a few positions this summer. The club are coming off of a brilliant season which saw them crowned Scottish Premiership champions against all odds and also lift the League Cup as well. But the next campaign promises to be an even more important one as they have the league crown to defend against the Rangers and Champions League group stage football to play after many years.

Thus, Ange Postecoglou must be keen to add further options over the course of the summer. They have made a positive start by signing Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent deal after his incredible loan spell, and it is believed that a similar move for Jota is not far away.

One area where they do not need to splash out though is striker, with both Kyogo Furuhashi and Giorgos Giakoumakis doing brilliantly, when on the pitch. They had quite a few injury struggles though and it might not be a bad idea to bring in another option who can find the back of the net consistently.

One forward that Celtic had been linked with recently is Bristol City’s Antoine Semenyo, who impressed in the Championship last season. But now, a move seems very unlikely.

As reported by Bristol World, Bristol City have turned down an offer worth around £9 million for Semenyo. It came from an unnamed club. The likes of Celtic, Fulham, Bournemouth and Crystal Palace have been linked with the player recently though.

Semenyo was very impressive while playing up front for The Robins last season and could be a great addition in Postecoglou’s side.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 8 goals and provided 12 assists in 31 Championship appearances for Bristol City last season.

At the same time though, it is pretty much impossible to see Celtic even making a transfer bid close to £9 million, forget surpassing it, for a player who might not even be the first-choice striker for them.
