It is the next big deal the Celtic fans want to see. The signing of Jota being confirmed on a permanent basis following his incredibly successful loan spell from Benfica last season. And all the recent rumours suggest that it looks to be getting very close to becoming reality now. The supporters have already been given something to celebrate as Cameron Carter-Vickers was signed in a transfer deal that could rise up to £10 million with add-ons.

Signing both players permanently must have been on the summer wish list of the majority of the fans and there had been hopes of a double signing announcement. But the United States defender’s move has already been announced, while the move for the Portuguese winger has faced delay.

It is believed that Celtic have an option to buy for Jota set at a transfer fee around £6.4 million or €7.5 million. And while the delay might make some fans nervous, especially considering the club’s past record when it comes to getting deals over the line, there seems to be some positive news.

As reported by Record (via Daily Record), Jota remains in talks with Celtic over the last details of his contract. Benfica are not standing in the way of an exit though and he is expected to play for the Hoops next season.

Benfica are believed to be keen to complete the deal too. The transfer fee involved is still a hefty one for Celtic but after Jota’s scintillating loan season, it could prove to be a bargain in the long run.

While it looks like the hold up is over the contract Jota will have at Celtic, it does feel like it is only a matter of time before those final details are ironed out.

Fans will be hoping that the deal gets over the line fast, and the club can then concentrate on strengthening in other positions on the pitch.
