Celtic might be in need of bringing in reinforcements in the middle of the park this summer. The club had signed Reo Hatate, Matt O’Riley and Yosuke Ideguchi in January, and built up incredible depth in midfield. That has suffered already though, with Tom Rogic and Nir Bitton saying their final goodbyes to the Hoops fans at the end of last season, as they brought an end to their almost decade-long careers at Parkhead.

While O’Riley and David Turnbull might be able to fill in for Rogic, Celtic appear to have fewer options in defensive midfield, with Bitton leaving and Ismaila Soro also being linked with a move to Omonia Nicosia, where he would reunite with Neil Lennon, under whose management he had arrived at Parkhead.

Thus, Celtic might very well need to sign a defensive midfielder this summer and one player that they have been linked with is Vinicius Souza. The Brazilian is currently with Belgian second division side, Lommel SK, City Football Group’s team in Belgium but was immensely impressive while on loan with KV Mechelen last season.

As a result, he has been linked with a move away and Celtic are one of the clubs believed to hold an interest. But they could have heavy competition for his signature. As reported by Nieuwsblad, Souza seems to have concrete offers from Italy, Belgium and the Netherlands.

Celtic handed transfer blow in race to sign Souza

Thus, it is safe to say that Celtic will have a tough time trying to bring Souza to Parkhead this summer, with the amount of interest in his signature.

Of course, never say never in football, because Celtic have something to offer that most other clubs in Europe don’t and that is Champions League group stage football.

It is believed that Souza could leave Lommel SK for another loan spell and in that case, a move to Parkhead, to experience challenging for titles and Champions League football, could be a great opportunity for the Brazilian.
