Reliable journalist confirms Celtic transfer fee rumour

The summer transfer window is open and Celtic have started it with a bang to say the least. The Hoops have signed Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent basis from Tottenham Hotspur. The United States defender was on loan at Parkhead last season from the Premier League club and enjoyed a tremendous campaign, as Ange Postecoglou’s side completed a Premiership and League Cup double, against all expectations.

Carter-Vickers certainly played his part. Defence had been considered as a weakness for Celtic for a while, but he proved to be a rock at the back and one of the main reasons behind the club’s defensive improvement.

Many considered him as Celtic’s best player of the season and thus, there was a desperation amongst the supporters to see him being signed on a permanent basis.

The club have delivered and Carter-Vickers has joined Celtic on a permanent basis, on a four-year deal. And it looks like they have potentially paid out a club record transfer fee to do that. Larry Nance Jr, who has been on top of any news to do with Carter-Vickers since last summer, tweeted out that the initial fee was £6 million plus £4 million in add-ons:

Thus, if all add-ons are met, that would make Carter-Vickers the most expensive signing in the history of Celtic, ahead of Odsonne Edouard.

But considering how well he did last season, it was a move that the Hoops needed to pull off and it is great to see that they have done exactly that.

It is a sign that the club are backing Postecoglou and the vision that the manager he has for this team. Of course, guaranteed Champions League group stage football would have helped Celtic in making that decision.

The next thing on the wish list has to be signing Jota on a permanent basis, another loan player who played a key part in Celtic’s successes last season. For him, the option to buy is believed to be set at a relatively lower €7.5 million and all the recent noises have suggested that the Hoops are close to making it happen.
