Celtic have been linked with a wide number of players in recent times as the club need to strengthen their squad over the course of the summer, with Champions League football to play next season after many years and the Scottish Premiership crown to defend as well, something that the Rangers were unable to do against Ange Postecoglou’s side in the 2021/22 campaign.

It looks like Celtic are looking all over the world when it comes to signing new players. That has been a feature of the club since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou as manager and the arrival of Mark Lawwell is expected to help in this regard as well, with his huge experience of working with City Football Group.

South America seems to be an area of particular interest with Celtic being linked with Argentine and Brazilian players recently.

The latest name on that list has been that of Lanus left-back, Alexandro Bernabei. Rumours have suggested that the Hoops are closing in on a move, which has come a bit out of the blue to be honest. And now, there appears to be an interesting update on the Argentine’s situation. As reported by La Union de Lanus:

"The team led by Jorge Almirón will not be able to count again on its historical scorer, José Sand, who is injured, nor on Alexandro Bernabei, who will return to the country this weekend, after having carried out personal procedures in Europe."

That is certainly a very interesting update, for a South American player to be in Europe for ‘personal procedures’, in the middle of the season.

While it is unclear what the reason of Bernabei’s trip to Europe might be, it is safe to say that the timing of it is curious, as recent rumours have suggested that the Argentine left-back is closing in on a move to Celtic.

It remains to be seen how things play out from here on. It must be said that if Celtic are able to sign Bernabei, it could be a major coup on the part of the club.

Despite being just 21 years of age, he already has plenty of experience under his belt. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has made 85 appearances for Lanus, scoring 5 goals and providing 10 assists. He has also represented Argentina at the youth level.
