Celtic have already signed one defender this summer in the form of Cameron Carter-Vickers. Technically, he is not a new addition to this side though, as the United States international was already on loan at the club from Tottenham Hotspur. As a result, the Hoops might need to make further additions at the back this summer, especially if Christopher Jullien ends up leaving.
Jullien made his return from a long-term injury early this year, which had seen him make zero appearances for Celtic in 2021 and spend the entirety of it on the sidelines.
The Frenchman, once considered the best defender at the club, has found it difficult to break into Ange Postecoglou’s first-team plans though and as a result, has been linked with a move away from the club. And if that does happen, the Hoops might be short of options at centre-back.
As reported by Homme du Match, Celtic are one of the clubs interested in Ahmed Touba. The Algerian international is also being linked with the likes of Sevilla, Real Betis, Benfica, Marseille, AEK Athens, Bayer Leverkusen and several more clubs though.
Celtic linked with in-demand defender this summer alongside the likes of Sevilla, Real Betis, Benfica, Marseille and Bayer Leverkusen
It is safe to say that Touba is very highly rated considering the amount and likes of clubs believed to be interested in signing him. Now, it remains to be seen if any of them are able to win the race for his signature this summer or not.
Touba currently plays for Eredivisie side, RKC Waalwijk, and also represents the Algerian national team.
He is a physical presence at the back and at 24 years of age, has plenty of time to develop and improve as a defender.
Touba has been very impressive in recent times and fits the bill when it comes to the kind of players that Celtic try to sign. At the same time though, there appears to be heavy interest in the player from all across Europe and thus, if the Hoops are able to sign him, it would be a major coup for them.
