Midfield is an area where Celtic might need to bring in reinforcements over the summer. The club saw both Tom Rogic and Nir Bitton bring an end to their almost decade-long Parkhead careers at the end of the 2021/22 campaign and it is safe to say that they will need some replacing in the middle of the park.

The club might already have a pretty decent one for Rogic in the form of Matt O’Riley, while David Turnbull is someone who could potentially fill that role as well. On the other hand though, there is no real replacement for Bitton at the club right now.

Thus, a holding midfielder might very well be at the top of Celtic’s transfer wishlist for the summer and it is telling that they have been linked with a number of players capable of playing there in recent days.

Now, as reported by the Daily Mail, the Hoops have joined the transfer race for Vinicius Souza. The Brazilian holding midfielder is expected to leave on loan next season and Celtic have already scheduled discussions with his representatives.

Souza is currently at Belgian second division side, Lommel SK. The club are part of the City Football Group though.

Interestingly, both Ange Postecoglou and Mark Lawwell have a history with City Football Group and that could potentially come in handy for Celtic in this kind of a situation.

Souza is not expected to remain at the second division club next season, and could head out on loan again, if not on a permanent basis, after the Brazilian managed to impress in the top division of the Belgian league, while on loan at KV Mechelen.

Somebody like Souza could be a good fit in Postecoglou’s system and might be the midfield destroyer that this side needs. He is a physical presence in the middle of the park, a good tackler of the ball, aggressive and has a good reading of the game as well. Also, he is just 22 years of age, and could improve a lot with experience at the top level.
