With the start of the 2022 summer transfer window, Celtic appear to have ramped up the process of identifying and adding quality to their squad. The general feeling about the club is that Ange Postecoglou will try to bring in a certain number of players to strengthen the team even though a rebuild is no longer needed, like was the case the last time around.

As far as areas of need are concerned, Celtic could look towards landing a midfielder this summer, having seen Tom Rogic and Nir Bitton say their goodbyes at the end of the 2021/22 season.

Numerous names have been linked with the club and done the rounds of the rumour mill over the past few weeks and months. One of the latest among them is that of Vinicius Souza.

As reported by the Daily Mail, Celtic have joined the race to sign Souza from Lommel SK. However, the Hoops are not the only club interested in making a summer swoop for the Brazilian holding midfielder, with teams such as Fenerbahce, Club Brugge and Bologna also declaring their interest in the 22-year-old.

Celtic have their eyes on the Brazilian holding midfielder

Souza spent his last campaign on loan at KV Mechelen in the top tier of Belgian football. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he made 35 appearances across all competitions, registering two goals and one assist.

Standing at over 6 feet tall, the midfielder is a presence in the middle of the park and not afraid to make a tackle.

He is part of City Football Group’s Belgian side, Lommel SK. They are currently in the second division of Belgian football though and after his impressive campaign in the top tier with KV Mechelen, one would not expect Souza to spend the next season there.

Someone like Souza could prove to be a replacement for Bitton in the middle of the park. Celtic could certainly do with a holding midfielder capable of breaking up play. Now, it remains to be seen if they can sign the Brazilian.
