It is official, Celtic have signed Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent basis and the move has been announced. Positive noises about the transfer had been coming out from various sections of the media for a while and now, a deal is finally over the line, in what is a massive boost for Ange Postecoglou’s side.

The United States international had been one of Celtic’s most consistent players last season and arguably their best player as well over the course of the campaign. He was only on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur though.

Celtic have done well to sign the defender on a permanent basis as rumours had suggested that there was interest from clubs in the Premier League as well as the Championship, following his excellent displays for the Hoops.

Carter-Vickers might have come through the youth ranks at Tottenham Hotspur, but he never got a regular place in the first-team picture, spending one spell out on loan after another. Finally, he has found a home for himself at Parkhead. As reported by Celtic’s official website, the new signing said about his permanent move:

"“I am so pleased to complete my move to Celtic and I really could not be happier.“I have loved every minute of my time at Celtic so far and I really wanted to be part of the club’s future.“We have a fantastic group of players at the club, we have a really good spirit and atmosphere among us and we all worked so hard together to deliver the league and League Cup success last season.”"

Carter-Vickers further added:

"“I wanted to make sure I was part of this group going forward and working under a great manager, and now we all want to achieve more.“We have so much to look forward to, we will aim to be strong again domestically and of course we look ahead with real excitement to the Champions League.“I have received such a great welcome from everyone at the club from day one and also from our supporters. When you are fortunate enough to be inside Celtic you can see it really is one of the world’s great football clubs.“I am delighted to be given this opportunity at a club of this stature and I will be doing all I can to play my part in bringing more and more success to our fans.”"

It is safe to say that Celtic were not the only option that was available to Carter-Vickers this summer, if the rumours are anything to go by.

The Hoops might very well have been the best option though. Going anywhere else would have required him to make a fresh start and find his way into the first-team picture. At Parkhead, it is pretty clear where he fits into Postecoglou’s plans and has already proven himself to be a league-winning defender.

This is a great place for him to develop and if he wants a Premier League experience later, he has plenty of time to get that as well as he is just 24 years of age.
