Celtic have been linked with a wide variety of players in recent times as it looks like the Hoops are keeping their eyes and options open this summer. There is no area of the squad, where they definitely need to make more additions. Centre-back will be one such position if they are unable to sign Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent deal but all the recent noises have suggested that the club have good chance of bringing in the United States international permanently.

Another area that might end up needing reinforcements is goalkeeper, after Vasilis Barkas completed a loan exit to join Dutch club FC Utrecht till the end of the season.

This leaves the club with only Joe Hart and Scott Bain as senior goalkeepers, while Tobi Oluwayemi is very highly-rated but most possibly quite some distance away before he will be considered for a regular spot in the starting XI for Celtic.

Thus, the club could do with another goalkeeper and it looks like they have taken a major step in that very direction. As reported by the Daily Record, Celtic have stepped up their chase for Benjamin Siegrist and the Hoops chiefs have made contact with the goalkeeper’s representatives.

Celtic make contact with player’s representatives as he is a free agent this summer

Siegrist was one of the most highly rated goalkeepers in all of Scotland for quite some time. But he left Dundee United this summer at the end of his deal and is a free agent right now.

Both Celtic and the Rangers have been linked with him heavily in recent times as have been Manchester United.

The Swiss star could be an excellent addition to any club, especially as a free agent. It is believed that Celtic would be bringing him in as Joe Hart’s back-up but he is someone who could be good enough to actually challenge for the first-team spot, especially with the Manchester City legend having undeniable weaknesses in certain aspects of his game.
