Celtic and the Rangers, will both be looking to improve in the summer transfer window. The Hoops have the Scottish Premiership crown to defend against their Glasgow rivals next season as well as a guaranteed place in the UEFA Championship group stage. On the other hand, the Rangers will be looking to win back the league title, having failed to defend it, and will also be hoping to make their way into Europe’s elite competition through the qualification stages.

It remains to be seen how things turn out in the summer but it looks like both clubs have their eyes on one winger.

The player in question is Welsh international, Rabbi Matondo, who is currently a Schalke player but spent the 2021/22 season with Cercle Brugge, where he enjoyed a very promising season and as a reason, appears to have caught the eyes of clubs around Europe.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 10 goals and provided 2 assists in 27 appearances for Cercle Brugge last season. And as reported by Wales Online, talks with both Celtic and Rangers have already begun.

Celtic and Rangers both appear to be interested in signing the Wales international

It is not hard to see why Celtic might be interested in making a move for the Welsh international, as they could do with some strengthening on the flanks. Neither Mikey Johnston nor James Forrest have been able to impress in recent years.

On the other hand, it looks like the Rangers are ready to provide a challenge to Celtic in the race for Matondo’s signature, even though their last move for a Welsh international did not turn out as they would have hoped for.

Matondo is still believed to have a year left on his contract with Schalke but the German side are rumoured to be open to letting him go this summer. At 21 years of age, he could be a solid addition to this Celtic side, if they can get a deal over the line.
