Celtic are expected to make some big moves this summer, as they look to defend their Scottish crown next season as well as impress in their return to the Champions League after several years. Ange Postecoglou has already assembled an impressive squad at the club but there is definitely a lot of room for improvement as well. Thus, one would expect the Hoops to make some moves this summer.

This will be in terms of incoming as well as outgoings though, as there are a number of players at Parkhead right now, who have very little hope of being a regular part of Postecoglou’s first-team plans next season.

In that respect, the club have already completed their first move of the summer and it is a big one, as Vasilis Barkas has completed a loan exit. The Greek goalkeeper had barely featured for Celtic last season.

As tweeted out by Anthony Joseph, Barkas has joined Utrecht for the 2022/23 season.

Celtic complete big summer loan exit

Barkas had arrived at Celtic with a lot of expectations as the club had shelled out a transfer fee around £4.5 million to bring him to Parkhead from AEK Athens. It is safe to say that the move has not worked out for the club or the player.

Barkas had struggled to hold on to a regular starting spot during the course of the 2020/21 season and this time around, he barely featured. There were hopes that Postecoglou could turn his Celtic career around but it is safe to say that those have not come to fruition.

The club were believed to have tried to loan him out in January itself but a move did not materialise. This is a big move for Celtic though, as it opens up a spot in the goalkeeping ranks and they could potentially bring in someone to challenge Joe Hart for the first-team spot now.
