As Celtic make their plans for their return to the Champions League group stage next season, they will need to strengthen over the course of the summer transfer window to build a squad that can compete with Europe’s elite teams. As a result, do not be surprised to see the club making multiple additions over the coming months despite their successful 2021/22 campaign.

While Celtic fans must be disappointed to see Scotland failing to book their tickets to Qatar, they seem to have their eyes on players who could be there at the World Cup finals later this year.

Schalke’s Rabbi Matondo was a part of the Wales national team squad which qualified for the World Cup at the weekend with a victory over Ukraine. And he will be keen to make sure his upcoming domestic campaign keeps him in contention for the trip to Qatar later in the year.

Matondo spent the 2021/22 season out on loan at Belgian side Cercle Brugge. It was a very promising spell for the youngster but he will be returning to Germany. But as reported by WAZ, it is unlikely that the Welshman will remain at Schalke and is on the transfer list.

Celtic and Rangers are both interested in the Wales international

It looks like Celtic and Rangers are both keeping an eye on the situation of Matondo. Will Unwin tweeted out:

Matonda enjoyed a great season in the Belgian Jupiler Pro league last season and the 21 year old right winger is an exciting prospect for sure. Somewhat coincidentally the hoops have also been linked with his younger brother Japhet in recent times.

There will be plenty of other interest in the player though, Fulham and Bournemouth with their new Premier League status are believed to be keen. But the Hoops’ place in the Champions League group stages and exciting football style make the club an exciting prospect for new signings.
