Celtic are expected to bolster their squad with new players in the upcoming summer transfer window. But releasing players, who do not seem to be in the manager’s plans, could be equally important for the Hoops. And they have already made some moves in that regard.

Having won the 2021/22 Scottish Premiership title, Celtic have secured their place in next season’s UEFA Champions League group stage. The general feeling among the fans is that the club needs reinforcements to compete at the most elite level of European football next season.

While making new signings has become a necessity, finding the balance in a squad sometimes is even more important. Therefore, Celtic have decided to release several players like Ryan Mullen, Luca Connell, Brody Paterson and Kerr McInroy.

As reported by the Daily Record, Kilmarnock are keen on making a move for McInroy. Having finished atop the Scottish Championship last season, the club secured promotion to the Premiership.

Kilmarnock will play in the Premiership next season, meaning they are also in need of making new additions. The newly-promoted side has already signed Alan Power and could be looking to land McInroy next, as a free agent.

McInroy, now 21 years of age, joined the Celtic academy at 12. Emerging through the ranks of the Scottish giants, he has represented Scotland at several youth levels but never managed to make a mark on the Hoops’ senior team.

Over the last two years, he has been on loan to Dunfermline Athletic,  Airdrieonians, and Ayr United. But the midfielder never seemed to convince Celtic enough to give him a shot in the first-team.

McInroy’s contract with the Hoops expired this summer. And he will leave the club as a free agent, meaning his transfer to Kilmarnock would be a free one if it happens.
