We all know Celtic have a worldwide support that only few other clubs do and they are a very strong brand on a global level. And now, there is further proof to back that up. A new report by global brand valuation consultancy, Brand Finance, has studied football clubs across the world and ranked them according to the value of their brand.

Celtic are listed in the top 50 clubs in the world. On the other hand, the Rangers don’t make the cut on this global list. Naturally, it left their fans unhappy on social media and they did let it be known.

When it comes to looking at the brand value for the Hoops, the club is ranked in 44th place, which is up from 48th last year. Now many fans may have been hoping for higher, but this is a tremendous showing given the league that the Hoops play in and the revenue that Scottish clubs generally bring in.

Tv deals and prize money, as an example, are significantly lower than what clubs playing in the top five European leagues (Premier League, La Liga, Ligue 1, Bundesliga and Serie A) receive. In fact this is underlined by the fact that other than Celtic, only three other clubs from outside of those leagues have managed to make it to the list. They are Ajax, Benfica and Flamengo.

Celtic’s brand remains better than that of the Rangers

While competing financially will remain a challenge when playing in Scottish football, the extensive and incredible fan base of Celtic drives the club forward in terms of brand strength.

The report considers a brand strength metric alongside the financial aspect and uses a number of on and off the pitch measures like stadium capacity, squad size and value, social media presence, on pitch performance, fan satisfaction, revenue and fair-play rating.

Celtic stand at 18th on this ranking, which helps to illustrate the real strength of the club and its brand.

Ange Postecoglou is also helping secure even better fan engagement, with the club’s popularity growing a lot in Australia and Japan since his arrival. And with such a firm foundation, expect Celtic to go from strength to strength.
