Celtic’s massive Cameron Carter-Vickers transfer boost confirmed
Celtic will be looking to sign Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent basis from Tottenham Hotspur this summer after his incredible performances for the club while on loan. He was one of the key members of the Hoops’ title-winning campaign and many would claim that he was in fact their best player. Although that is up for debate, one thing that is not is that it would be a major blow for Ange Postecoglou’s side if he is not available moving forward.
Celtic could be the perfect place for Carter-Vickers to continue his development. After a series of underwhelming loan spells at Championship clubs, he finally seems to have found a home for himself at Parkhead.
It is believed that Celtic have an option to buy in the loan deal of an initial transfer fee around £6 million, which could rise up to £10 million with add-ons.
Rumours have suggested that personal terms would not be a problem but Celtic do need to agree a deal with Tottenham Hotspur. The Hoops have been handed a huge boost in the transfer chase though as Carter-Vickers has confirmed his intentions of leaving the London club. As reported by The Scottish Sun, the United States international said:
"“I just want to be somewhere playing football. If I’m being completely honest, I think it’s time to move on permanently.”"
Why the transfer makes sense for Celtic as well as Carter-Vickers
That is pretty much the first hurdle crossed for Celtic. Now, it remains to be seen if they can agree a deal with Tottenham Hotspur.
If the club do decided to trigger the option to buy, it would immediately make Carter-Vickers one of the most expensive signings in the history of Celtic and would put it firmly at the top, if all add-ons are met after that.
Thus, it is certainly a big decision for Celtic to say the least. At the same time though, they will know that it is very important for them to bring back Carter-Vickers, especially with UEFA Champions League group stage football coming up.
On the other hand, a move to Celtic makes a lot of sense for Carter-Vickers as well. He will be expected to play regular first-team football and at 24 years, he has plenty of time on his side, if he does want to move to a different club in the future after a stint at Parkhead.
