Celtic fans would have been hoping to put their feet up and relax after what had been a very successful season for the club, especially considering the circumstances. The Hoops had a mountain to climb to even compete with the Rangers for the title, having finished trophyless and 25 points behind the Ibrox side last time around. On top of that, they had had to undergo a major squad overhaul last summer as well.

Thus, the fact that they managed to win not only the Premiership title but the Scottish League Cup as well, was remarkable to say the least.

They have been handed an injury worry coming straight out of the campaign though as Carl Starfelt was forced off the pitch just before half-time, while representing the Swedish national team against Slovenia.

It is not clear how serious the injury is and Celtic fans will be hoping for the best. Starfelt himself gave a worrying update regarding the situation though. As reported by Expressen, the defender said:

"“It is of course not fun, especially not when you get the chance to play and then it is clear that you want to take it. But sometimes it’s like that in football, I have to see now what kind of injury it is then I have to take it for that reason.”"

Starfelt further added about the situation:

"“We’ll see, it does not look very bright. If you are lucky, the X-ray may not show anything and I can recover in a few days, but right now I do not see it as very likely.”"

Celtic star provides worrying injury update

Starfelt has been a key player for Celtic since arriving last summer from Rubin Kazan, as the Hoops were believed to have shelled out a transfer fee around £4.5 million to sign the Swedish international.

He stumbled out of the gates at Parkhead and fans were left questioning whether he was good enough to be a first-team star. But as the season progressed, he found his feet and ultimately, went on to form a brilliant partnership in the heart of defence alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers.

Thus, Celtic will be hoping that the injury that Starfelt suffered against Slovenia is nothing serious and he is back fit and available as soon as possible. On the other hand, the club will also be looking to sign his defensive partner, Carter-Vickers, on a permanent basis from Tottenham Hotspur, after his super successful loan spell.
